Foundations and Mud

After months of unseasonally dry weather in Auckland, it seems that it was saving up all the 'wet stuff' until my builders were ready to start with the excavations.  Poor blighters, they toiled away in the thick clay mud.  They managed to get all the pile holes dug, passed off by Council and concrete poured all in one go.  Much to my relief as there is currently a 3 week lead time for concrete in Auckland at the moment.
All explained in the video below.

Panoramic view looking East.  Right now it looks big and is scaring the neighbours.

Standing on the SW corner (future lounge / deck) looking up the slope.

The Build is On!

Saturday May 14th 2016
It seems like eternity to reach this moment.  A point which during the Building Consent process I thought was some sort of mythical stage, up there with Unicorns and such like.  I am actually witnessing the start of the building of my house.  There are diggers working away and fellas scurrying around with tape measures, it is actually happening!  Having to rub my eyes a bit in disbelief.
What is even more unbelievable is that the builder has started 2 weeks early, completely unprompted, and there's more, they are working on the weekend... yes I know... I think I just saw a  Unicorn gallop past, as it is more believable!

View of the site when I rocked up on a Sat afternoon to cut the grass!

This wasn't on the plan, looks like we will have to put a retaining wall in.

The site will never look this clean again.
